I chose Women’s rights in Afghanistan under the Taliban as the topic for my NHD project because when I had to my topic, I started discussing the Middle East, in Social Studies class. My teacher told the class women in places of the Middle East weren’t considered equals to men. I was intrigued by that fact, so I decided to inquirer on the subject. While researching, women in the Middle East, I discovered the Taliban. The Taliban seized Afghanistan and transformed it into gender apartheid. The Taliban were big contributors, to why women’s depression and poverty rates increased in Afghanistan between the 1990s and 2000s. The facts discovered, were fascinating to me, so when I’d to pick a topic that related to theme rights and responsibilities, I thought choosing Women’s rights in Afghanistan under The Taliban would be the perfect opportunity to continue more research.
I began researching for my project by investigating Taliban rules and women’s rights in Afghanistan. I found various organizations supporting women’s rights in Afghanistan, pictures, and articles that discussed my topic. Next I searched for quotes from women who lived before the Taliban, so I could get a firsthand explanation of how the Taliban affected women’s rights. Then I researched the 2003 constitution in Afghanistan. Then I looked for an eBook that related to The Taliban and woman’s rights. After that I looked for interviews between reporters, organizations supporting women’s rights in Afghanistan, and people who lived during the Taliban’s rule. Finally I read the book ‘‘Three cups of Tea (kid’s edition)’’. I got quotes from women during the Taliban and information that gave an overview of who the Taliban were, what the Taliban did, and effects the Taliban had on women’s rights in Afghanistan. Then I started making my website
I chose website as the format of my project because I’ve made a website before. I remember when I made the website, I liked using technology to add graphics, videos, audio, and button links, it was easy to access anywhere with a computer, it was simple and clean to read,. To make my website I first, made a rough draft of the website using the notes I wrote down while researching. Then I went on Weebly to make my final draft. I added the primary and secondary sources from my notes, images, captions, citations, process paper, annotated bibliography, button links, and titles. Then i changed the color of the quotes. Finally I chose a design.
My project relates to the NHD annual theme, ‘‘rights and responsibilities in history’’, because my project’s topic is women’s rights in Afghanistan under the Taliban. In my project it explains why the Taliban are responsible for taking away women’s basic rights between 1996-2001. It also explains why the U.S are responsible for the fall of the Taliban It tells the rights women had taken away by the Taliban, the rights they got back, how women not having their basic rights had a negative impact on society between 1996-2001.
